Sweet Bonanza Slot Review

Quick verdict

If one slot defines the modern Pragmatic Play era, it’s Sweet Bonanza. Launched in June 2019, it swapped paylines for a 6x5 pay-anywhere grid, made tumbling wins the main event, and dropped rainbow multiplier bombs worth up to 100x into its free spins. Years later, Pragmatic is still building sequels around it (1000, Xmas, Super Scatter), and the original still delivers a candy-shop explosion when the bombs line up.

Play it if you like:

• Simple rules: 8 or more matching symbols anywhere is a win
• Free spins where a single bomb can turn a small win into a huge one
• Choosing your own route to the bonus (Ante Bet or Bonus Buy)

Skip it if you want multipliers in the base game. They only appear in free spins, so base-game wins are modest.

Our score: 4.5/5 durians, Premium. It’s a genuine classic that has earned its fame.

How to play Sweet Bonanza

1. Set your bet. Standard stakes run 0.20 to 100 per spin. With Ante Bet switched on, the same levels cost 25% more (0.25 to 125). MYR, SGD and PHP casinos use their own bet steps, so check the menu.
2. Spin the 6x5 grid. Forget paylines. 8 or more of the same symbol anywhere on screen pays.
3. Watch it tumble. Winning symbols burst and vanish, new ones drop in, and the cascade continues until there are no fresh wins.

Symbols and paytable highlights

Fruit makes up the lower tier: banana, grapes, watermelon, plum and apple. Four candies sit above them, with the red heart candy at the top. Payouts come in three bands, for 8–9, 10–11 and 12+ symbols:

The lollipop scatter pays 3x, 5x or 100x your bet for 4, 5 or 6 anywhere, and it triggers free spins. There are no wilds. All values are multiples of your total bet.

Bonus features, step by step

Tumble feature

The tumble is the engine of Sweet Bonanza. Every win removes the winning symbols, everything above falls down, and new symbols fill the gaps. One spin can produce a chain of wins, and in free spins every link in that chain can be multiplied.

Multiplier bombs (free spins only)

1. During free spins, rainbow bomb symbols can land with values from 2x to 100x.
2. They stay on screen while the tumble sequence plays out.
3. When the sequence ends, every bomb on screen is added together.
4. That total multiplies the whole win from the sequence.

Land a 50x and a 25x on a winning sequence and that tumble pays 75x its normal value.

Free spins and bonus buy

Triggering: 4 or more lollipop scatters anywhere award 10 free spins, along with the 3x/5x/100x scatter payout.

Retriggers: land 3 or more scatters during the round and you get 5 extra spins, as many times as they keep landing.

Shortcuts, where your casino offers them:

• Ante Bet (+25% stake): adds more scatter chances and doubles your odds of triggering free spins. It’s the cheaper way to see more bonuses.
• Bonus Buy (100x your bet): instant entry to free spins. You can’t buy while Ante Bet is on.

The honest maths: neither option is a hack. Ante Bet costs a quarter more on every spin, and a buy puts 100x your stake on one round. At a 0.50 stake that’s 50 for a single bonus. Only buy with money you’ve already decided you can lose.

RTP and volatility, explained plainly

The standard RTP is 96.48%. You’ll see 96.49% or 96.51% quoted elsewhere, because figures differ slightly between bet modes, and casinos can also run lower-RTP versions. The only number that matters is the one in your casino’s paytable, so check it. Our RTP and RNG guide explains why RTP is a long-run average, not a promise.

Volatility is high, and Pragmatic itself billed Sweet Bonanza as a high-volatility game at launch. Base-game wins are usually small, and the big moments come from bombs in free spins. Plan a session in spins rather than chasing: 300 spins at 0.20 is 60. More in our slot volatility guide.

Max win: how it’s reached

Sweet Bonanza’s cap is more than 21,000x your bet. Databases list 21,100x, and Pragmatic’s 2019 launch release quoted 21,175x, so check the rules at your casino for the exact figure. Either way, it’s a free spins prize. You need a long tumble chain of premium candy and several big bombs, ideally including a 100x, to land together on the same sequence. Retriggers give you more chances for that perfect storm.

Mobile play

The HTML5 game runs smoothly in Android and iOS browsers and inside casino apps. The symbols are large and colourful, and Ante Bet and Buy are available on mobile too.

If you like this, try these

• Sugar Rush: Pragmatic’s 7x7 candy cluster game, with multiplier spots up to 128x.
• Sugar Rush 1000: the high-octane candy option, with a 25,000x max win.
• Gates of Olympus: the same pay-anywhere tumble formula, but multipliers can land in the base game too.
• Starlight Princess: anime styling with a global multiplier in free spins.

Where to play Sweet Bonanza in Malaysia, Singapore & the Philippines

Sweet Bonanza is a Pragmatic Play title, so you’ll find it at the casinos we review that carry Pragmatic. All five of these list Pragmatic Play in their game libraries:

Before you deposit: search the lobby for “Sweet Bonanza” and pick the original (not 1000, Xmas or Super Scatter, unless you want those). Open the paytable to confirm the RTP, and read the bonus terms, since most welcome bonuses cap your bet while active. In the Philippines, GCash and Maya links to gambling sites have been restricted since August 2025, so check which deposit methods are working.

Final verdict

Sweet Bonanza earned its legend status the honest way: the rules fit in one sentence, the tumbles are endlessly watchable, and the free spins bombs create genuine edge-of-your-seat moments. The base game is fairly plain, and high volatility means patience is part of the price. As a pure fun and big-win package, though, it’s still one of the best slots Pragmatic has ever made. Spin the demo, check the RTP, and then go chase those rainbow bombs.
