What is turnover (wagering)?

Claim a bonus at any Malaysian online casino and there’s almost always one condition attached: turnover. International sites call it wagering, playthrough or rollover, but it’s the same thing. Turnover is the total amount you need to bet before the bonus, and anything you win with it, can be withdrawn.

Turnover doesn’t mean you have to lose that amount. Every bet counts, win or lose. A RM1 spin on a slot adds RM1 to your turnover even if that spin pays RM5. That’s why a RM100 deposit can “generate” thousands of ringgit in turnover: the same money keeps going round and round.

Casinos write the requirement as a multiplier, for example 15x, 25x or 35x. The problem is that the “x” number alone doesn’t tell you enough. Two 25x bonuses can differ by double the effort, depending on what is being multiplied. That’s the first thing you need to get right.

Durian tip: In a Malaysian casino’s T&Cs, look for the words “turnover”, “rollover” or an “x” after a number. If it says “(deposit + bonus) × 25”, that’s the deposit + bonus basis. If it says “bonus × 25”, that’s the bonus-only basis.

Bonus only vs deposit + bonus: the maths that changes everything

Casinos calculate turnover in one of two ways:

• Bonus only. The multiplier applies to the bonus amount. Your deposit isn’t counted.
• Deposit + bonus (D+B). The multiplier applies to your deposit plus the bonus. This is the most common method in Southeast Asia.

Worked example in RM

Say you deposit RM100 and get a 100% match bonus of RM100:

The formula to convert to the bonus basis

Multiplier on the bonus = D+B multiplier × (deposit + bonus) ÷ bonus

Real examples from our reviews:

• GOD55, 255% (35x D+B): deposit RM100, bonus RM255. Turnover (100 + 255) × 35 = RM12,425. Divide by RM255 and you get roughly 49x the bonus.
• Maxim88, 288% (28x D+B): deposit RM100, bonus RM288. Turnover 388 × 28 = RM10,864, about 38x the bonus.
• UWIN33, 100% slots (15x D+B): deposit RM100, bonus RM100. Turnover 200 × 15 = RM3,000, the same as 30x the bonus.
• DK88 (25x bonus only): DK88’s own example is a RM200 bonus × 25 = RM5,000. Your deposit isn’t counted at all.

When the match percentage is very high (255% or 288%), the gap between D+B and bonus only gets smaller, because the deposit is only a small part of the total. But the turnover in ringgit is still big, and that’s the amount you have to push through.

Game contribution: not every bet counts

Casinos don’t count every game equally. Each game type has a contribution percentage towards turnover. The figures below are the usual market ranges, so always check your bonus T&Cs:

Low contribution hits hard. If live casino counts at 10%, a RM100 baccarat bet adds only RM10 to your turnover. To clear RM5,000, you’d need to bet RM50,000 at the baccarat table. The other terms people always miss

Turnover isn’t the only condition. The same bonus can be worth it or painful depending on these smaller rules.

Time limits

Every bonus has an expiry date. DK88 gives you 3 days to clear its 25x, while GOD55, MD88 and Maxim88 give you 30 days. DK88’s multiplier is lighter, but you have to play more intensively: RM5,000 of turnover in 3 days works out to about RM1,667 a day, or more than 1,600 spins at RM1. If you can only play a bit after work, the 30-day bonuses are more relaxed lah.

Max bet

Many casinos set a max bet while a bonus is active. Got a max-bet rule or not? Check first, and if your T&Cs have one, stick to it on every spin. One big spin over the limit is enough for the casino to cancel all your bonus winnings.

Cashout caps and win limits

• DK88: bonus winnings can be withdrawn up to 5× the bonus.
• UWIN33, RM10 free credit: one withdrawal of RM50 to RM100; anything above that is forfeited.
• MD88, 100% live casino bonus: maximum cashout of RM2,000.
• GOD55: a daily win cap of RM30,000 for entry-level members.

Excluded games

This is the most common trap for Malaysian players, because the most popular kiosk slots are often the ones that don’t count:

• Maxim88 288%: all slots and fishing count except PlayAce, Mega888 and 918Kiss.
• GOD55 255%: Playtech, Gemini, Microslot, CP Games, 918Kiss, Mega888 and Pussy888 don’t count.
• MD88 288%: Playtech, Asia Gaming, Relax Gaming, Habanero, Lucky365, BNG, 918Kiss, Mega888 and Pussy888 don’t count.
• UWIN33: draws, betting both sides, roulette bets covering 24 or more numbers and odds below 1.50 don’t count.

If Mega888 or 918Kiss is your main game, take the dedicated bonus for it instead. GOD55 has 100% Mega888/918Kiss up to RM100 (4x winover, max payout RM1,288), and Maxim88 has 100% Mega888 / 918Kiss up to RM200 (8x winover).

Turnover vs winover

Mega888 and 918Kiss bonuses usually use winover, not turnover. Turnover counts how much you bet. Winover usually means your balance has to reach a set multiple before you can withdraw, and there’s often a maximum payout. The exact definition differs between casinos, so ask live chat if the T&Cs aren’t clear.

Sticky vs non-sticky

• Non-sticky: your cash is used first, and the bonus funds only kick in once the cash runs out. DK88 and UWIN33 both use your real money before the bonus funds.
• Sticky: the bonus is mixed into your balance and can’t be withdrawn; only the winnings can be withdrawn once the turnover is done.

One more thing: an active bonus can “lock” other features. At GOD55, the daily rebate pauses until the turnover is complete. At Maxim88, you can’t make a second transfer to the same provider while the bonus is running.

Rebates, cashback and free credit: low turnover, high value

Welcome bonuses get all the attention, but for regular players, rebates and cashback are often worth more because the turnover is low or zero.

A simple example: if your slots turnover is RM5,000 a month, a 1% rebate gives you RM50 that you can withdraw straight away. No max bet, no excluded games list and no tight expiry date. Steady.

Free credit and no-deposit bonuses

“Free credit” (or free kredit, as you’ll see it on Malaysian sites) is credit you get without making a deposit. Almost all of it comes with turnover and a cashout cap:

• UWIN33: RM10 free credit when you verify your phone, email, game preference and date of birth. Turnover is 5x (RM50 in bets), then one withdrawal of RM50 to RM100.
• DK88: 38 free spins with no wagering: 18 for verifying your email and 20 for verifying your phone number. Whatever you win is yours.

The real cost of clearing turnover

This is the part casino sites rarely explain. Every ringgit of turnover has an “expected cost” set by the game’s house edge:

Expected cost = turnover × house edge

A slot with a 96% RTP has a 4% house edge (100 − 96). So a 100% bonus on RM100 at 25x D+B needs RM5,000 of turnover, and the expected cost is RM5,000 × 4% = RM200. You get a RM100 bonus, but on average you “pay” RM200 to clear it.

That doesn’t mean you’re sure to lose. Every session swings up and down, and plenty of players hit big while clearing a bonus. But the long-run average doesn’t lie. Here’s the maths for real offers in Malaysia, using a 96% RTP slot:

The conclusion is confirm clear: lower turnover always wins. Big bonuses like 255% or 288% give you a bigger balance and longer playtime, which suits you if you want long sessions and a shot at a big win. But per ringgit of bonus, DK88 and UWIN33 are far “cheaper”.

A 7-step plan to clear your turnover

1. Read the T&Cs before you deposit. Note down five things: the basis (bonus or D+B), the multiplier, the time limit, the excluded games and the cashout cap.
2. Work out the turnover in RM. UWIN33 example: (RM100 + RM100) × 15 = RM3,000.
3. Divide by the number of days. RM3,000 over 10 days is RM300 a day, or 300 spins at RM1. If the daily figure is too high for your style, pick a smaller bonus.
4. Pick the right slot. It must be on the eligible list, have a 96%+ RTP, and be low or medium volatility. Check the RTP on the game’s info screen; our RTP and RNG guide shows you how.
5. Keep your bet size small. Around 0.5–1% of your balance. With a RM200 balance, RM1–RM2 spins last much longer than RM5.
6. Track your remaining turnover. Most casinos show your turnover progress in your account, or you can ask live chat. Don’t switch to excluded games halfway through.
7. Withdraw as soon as you’re done. Make sure your KYC is approved and the bank account is in your own name. Deposit via Touch ’n Go or DuitNow for the smoothest process.

Full example: RM100 at UWIN33, from deposit to withdrawal

You deposit RM100 via DuitNow and pick the Slot Games 100% bonus. Your balance is now RM200, and the turnover you need is (100 + 100) × 15 = RM3,000.

You pick a slot with a 96.5% RTP (check the info screen first) and play at RM1 a spin. That’s about 3,000 spins. The expected cost is 3,000 × 3.5% = RM105, so on average your balance ends up around RM95 (RM200 − RM105).

In real life, the results spread widely. Some sessions end with an empty balance before the turnover is done; others finish with RM300 or more thanks to one good round of free spins. Whatever happens, you know from the start how far you have to go and what it costs. If you finish the turnover with RM260 left, withdraw straight to your own bank account. UWIN33 says withdrawals are confirmed in 10–30 minutes.

Compare that with GOD55’s 255% bonus on the same deposit: a bigger starting balance (RM355), but RM12,425 of turnover means more than 12,000 spins at RM1 and an expected cost of around RM435 at 96.5% RTP. That suits players who really want to play long, not those who want a quick withdrawal.

Common mistakes and a quick glossary

• Claiming a slots bonus, then playing baccarat. The turnover doesn’t move, or worse, your winnings get cancelled.
• Forgetting to pick the promo code. At GOD55 and Maxim88, you only get the bonus if you select it when transferring funds to the game wallet. At DK88, you pick the bonus when you sign up.
• Betting both sides (Banker and Player, or red and black) to speed up turnover. Almost every casino treats this as bonus abuse.
