What RTP actually means (in pesos)
RTP (Return to Player) is the percentage of all money wagered on a game that it pays back to players over the long run. If a slot has a 96.5% RTP, then across millions of spins it returns about ₱96.50 for every ₱100 bet. The rest, ₱3.50, is the casino’s cut.
That cut has a name: the house edge.
House edge = 100% − RTP
So 96.5% RTP = 3.5% house edge. A 99% game has a 1% edge. Simple lang.
The key word is long run. RTP is calculated over millions of rounds. In one session of 300 spins, anything can happen. You might double your puhunan, you might lose it all. RTP doesn’t promise you anything tonight. What it does tell you is the average cost of playing.
Turn RTP into an “entertainment price”
This is the most useful way to think about it. Say you play ₱20 a spin for 500 spins. That’s ₱10,000 total wagered (turnover), even if you started with only ₱2,000, because wins get re-bet.
- At 96.5% RTP: ₱10,000 × 3.5% = ₱350 average cost for the session.
- At 94.5% RTP: ₱10,000 × 5.5% = ₱550 average cost.
Same game, same bets, ₱200 more expensive just because of the RTP version. Over a year of weekend sessions, that adds up to a lot of load and merienda.
RTP of popular slots (real numbers)
Here are the RTPs of the slots we’ve reviewed, straight from our slot pages. “Lower versions” are the alternative RTPs the provider also supplies to casinos.
| Slot | Provider | Default RTP | Lower versions | House edge (default) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Big Bass Bonanza | Pragmatic Play | 96.71% | 95.67% / 94.62% | 3.29% |
| Sugar Rush 1000 | Pragmatic Play | 96.53% | 95.50% / 94.50% | 3.47% |
| Gates of Olympus 1000 | Pragmatic Play | 96.50% | 95.51% / 94.50% | 3.50% |
| Gates of Olympus | Pragmatic Play | 96.50% | down to 94.50% | 3.50% |
| Sugar Rush | Pragmatic Play | 96.50% | 95.50% / 94.50% | 3.50% |
| Starlight Princess | Pragmatic Play | 96.50% | down to 94.50% | 3.50% |
| Sweet Bonanza | Pragmatic Play | 96.48% | check the paytable | 3.52% |
| Book of Dead | Play’n GO | 96.21% | 94.25% / 91.25% / 87.25% / 84.18% | 3.79% |
What about JILI? Pinoy favorites Super Ace and Fortune Gems both list a 97% RTP in our reviews (a 3% house edge). JILI doesn’t print the RTP on its public game pages, so confirm the version in the in-game info screen, and don’t trust a number from a Facebook post or a random APK site.
Quick RTP cheat sheet
- 97%+: excellent for a slot.
- 96–97%: good, the standard for big-name slots.
- 94–96%: average, often a lower version of a popular game.
- Below 94%: expensive. Alamin muna kung bakit before you play.
RTP variants: same slot, different payout
This surprises a lot of players. The same slot can run at different RTPs at different casinos. Providers like Pragmatic Play and Play’n GO build several versions of one game, and the casino picks which one to offer. The graphics, features and max win look identical. Only the math changes.
Book of Dead is the extreme case. On ₱50,000 of turnover:
| Book of Dead version | House edge | Expected loss on ₱50,000 |
|---|---|---|
| 96.21% | 3.79% | ₱1,895 |
| 94.25% | 5.75% | ₱2,875 |
| 91.25% | 8.75% | ₱4,375 |
| 87.25% | 12.75% | ₱6,375 |
| 84.18% | 15.82% | ₱7,910 |
Same Rich Wilde, same expanding symbol, but the 84.18% version costs you more than four times as much on average. That’s why checking takes 20 seconds and saves real pesos.
How to check the RTP inside the game
- Open the slot (demo mode is fine if the casino offers it).
- Tap the menu (☰) or the info (i) button, usually at the bottom of the screen.
- Open Game Rules, Paytable or Help.
- Scroll to the bottom. Look for a line like “The theoretical RTP of this game is 96.50%”.
- Check the extras. Some games list a separate RTP for the bonus buy or Ante Bet.
- Compare with the default. If it’s lower than the numbers in the table above, you’re on a lower version.
Two more things you might spot in the rules screen:
- Different RTPs for different modes. Sweet Bonanza, for example, is quoted anywhere between 96.48% and 96.51% depending on the bet mode (normal, Ante Bet, bonus buy). Small gaps like that are normal. Big gaps of 2% or more mean a different version.
- Jackpot slots run lower base RTPs. Part of every bet feeds the progressive jackpot, so the regular game pays back less. You’re trading everyday RTP for a lottery-style top prize.
Durian tip: If a casino runs the low version of your favorite slot, look for a sister game instead. Gates of Olympus 1000 and Starlight Princess play almost the same way, so pick whichever one shows the higher RTP in the info screen.
Table game RTPs: the best odds in the house
Slots aren’t the only option, and for pure RTP they’re rarely the best one. Here’s how the classic table games compare:
| Game and bet | RTP | House edge |
|---|---|---|
| Blackjack (basic strategy) | ≈99.5% | ≈0.5% |
| Baccarat: Banker | 98.94% | 1.06% |
| Baccarat: Player | 98.76% | 1.24% |
| European roulette | 97.30% | 2.70% |
| Sic Bo: Big / Small | 97.22% | 2.78% |
| Dragon Tiger: Dragon / Tiger | 96.27% | 3.73% |
| Typical modern slot | 94–97% | 3–6% |
| American roulette (double zero) | 94.74% | 5.26% |
| Color game (classic perya payouts) | ≈92.1% | ≈7.9% |
| Baccarat: Tie (8:1) | 85.64% | 14.36% |
A few things jump out:
- Banker beats every slot on the list. If you love baccarat, the Banker bet is one of the best value bets in the casino. Our baccarat guide goes deep on why.
- Blackjack is the champion, but only if you play the chart. Freestyle play pushes the edge to 2% or more. See our blackjack basic strategy guide.
- The Tie bet is a trap. That 8:1 payout looks juicy, but at 85.64% RTP it’s worse than any slot we review.
- Color game is fun, not cheap. With the classic perya rules (1:1 for one match, 2:1 for two, 3:1 for three) the math works out to about 7.9% house edge. Online versions can pay differently, so check the payout table.
Worked example: where the color game edge comes from
Three dice, six colors, and you bet ₱100 on red. Out of 216 possible rolls:
- 125 rolls show no red: you lose ₱100 each time (−₱12,500).
- 75 rolls show one red: you win ₱100 (+₱7,500).
- 15 rolls show two reds: you win ₱200 (+₱3,000).
- 1 roll shows three reds: you win ₱300 (+₱300).
Add it up: −₱12,500 + ₱10,800 = −₱1,700 across 216 bets of ₱100, or about −₱7.87 per ₱100. That’s the 7.9% edge. It feels like you win often (91 out of 216 rolls pay), but the 125 losing rolls outweigh them. Same lesson as slots: a high hit rate doesn’t mean a high RTP.
Game shows: RTP depends on where you bet
Live game shows like Crazy Time are hugely popular, but their RTP isn’t one number. Each betting spot on the wheel has its own RTP, and the figure you see quoted is usually the best one.
| Game show | Provider | Best-spot RTP | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crazy Time | Evolution | up to 96.08% | Other spots on the wheel are lower |
| Monopoly Live | Evolution | up to 96.23% | Depends on the segment you back |
| Sweet Bonanza CandyLand | Pragmatic Play Live | up to 96.95% | Range starts around 91.59% |
So a game show can be as “cheap” as a good slot, or noticeably more expensive, depending on your bets. Open the game’s help screen; the RTP for each spot is listed there.
Hit frequency vs RTP vs volatility
Three numbers, three different questions. Players mix them up all the time.
| Number | What it tells you | Example |
|---|---|---|
| RTP | How much the game pays back on average, long term | 96.53% on Sugar Rush 1000 |
| Hit frequency | How often a spin pays anything at all | About 1 in 3 spins on Sugar Rush 1000 (34.48%) |
| Volatility | How big and how rare the wins are | High on Sugar Rush 1000: long dry spells, 25,000x max win |
Sugar Rush 1000 is a good example of why you need all three. It pays something on roughly one spin in three, but many of those wins are smaller than your bet. The big money sits in the free spins, which come rarely. So it’s high RTP, decent hit frequency, and still a very swingy ride.
Hit frequency tells you how often you’ll see a “win” on screen. Volatility tells you how much those wins are worth. Our slot volatility guide explains how to match that to your budget.
What RNG is and how it’s tested
An RNG (Random Number Generator) is the software that decides every slot spin and every digital card. It generates numbers constantly, thousands of times per second. The moment you press Spin, the current number decides the result. The reel animation is just the show. The outcome is already set.
What this means for you:
- Every spin is independent. The last 100 spins have zero effect on the next one.
- No memory, no patterns. A slot can’t “owe” you anything.
- No timing trick. Pressing spin faster, slower, or stopping the reels early changes nothing.
Who tests the RNG?
Reputable game providers send their games to independent testing labs, which check that results are random and that the game pays the RTP it claims.
| Testing lab | What they do |
|---|---|
| eCOGRA | London-based tester known for its “Safe and Fair” seal and RNG audits |
| GLI (Gaming Laboratories International) | One of the biggest labs, certifies games for regulators worldwide |
| iTech Labs | Australian lab that tests RNGs and RTP for many online casinos and studios |
| BMM Testlabs | One of the oldest independent labs, tests RNGs and game math |
Live casino is different. There’s no RNG for the cards. A real dealer deals from a real shoe, and cameras plus OCR (optical character recognition) read the cards into the game. That’s a big reason live baccarat is so popular here: kita mo mismo.
Provably fair: checking the result yourself
Crypto casinos added another layer called provably fair. Instead of trusting a lab report, you can verify each round yourself. Here’s how it works:
- Before you play, the casino shows you a hashed server seed, a scrambled fingerprint of its secret seed.
- You set a client seed, your own random text. You can change it anytime.
- Each bet adds a nonce, a counter (1, 2, 3…).
- The result is calculated from server seed + client seed + nonce.
- When you rotate seeds, the casino reveals the real server seed. You hash it and check it matches the fingerprint you saw before playing. If it matches, the casino couldn’t have changed the results.
Winna has 16 provably fair Originals: Baccarat, Blackjack, Mines, Plinko, Dice, Limbo, Keno, HiLo, Coinflip, Tower and more. You can verify every round. Note that third-party slots like Gates of Olympus use the provider’s lab-certified RNG instead, which is the normal standard for slots everywhere.
RTP and RNG myths Pinoy players still believe
“This machine is hot, may tumatama.” No. A slot that just paid isn’t more likely to pay again. Each spin is independent.
“It hasn’t paid in 200 spins, so it’s due for a paldo.” No. There’s no “due”. The 201st spin has exactly the same odds as the first.
“Slots are looser at madaling araw” or “casinos tighten slots at night.” No. The RNG doesn’t know the time. Casinos can’t change a game’s RTP mid-session. They can only choose a version, and that choice applies around the clock.
“Payday mas malakas ang slots kasi maraming naglalaro.” No. Other players’ bets have no effect on your spins. Online slots aren’t a shared pot (except progressive jackpots, which only grow the prize, not your odds).
“New accounts get lucky to hook you.” No. Licensed providers’ games have certified math that can’t be tweaked per player.
“Manual spin is better than auto spin.” No. Same RNG, same odds. Autospin just makes you lose track of time faster, so set a loss limit if you use it.
How to use RTP to stretch your puhunan
You can’t beat the house edge, but you can pay less of it. Practical diskarte:
- Check the RTP version of every slot before you commit real money.
- Pick the higher-RTP sibling. If one casino runs 94.50% Gates of Olympus, look elsewhere or play a different game.
- Skip the worst bets. Baccarat Tie, side bets and American roulette are expensive.
- Use table games for long sessions. ₱10,000 of turnover on Banker costs about ₱106 on average, compared with ₱350 on a 96.5% slot.
- Count rakeback and rebates as RTP. Money returned on every bet effectively lifts your RTP.
- Match RTP with volatility. High RTP doesn’t help if a high-volatility slot busts your budget in 50 spins.
Durian tip: Write down the RTP you see in the info screen the first time you play a new slot. Next time a casino offers the same game, you’ll know instantly if it’s the same version.
Where to play high-RTP games in the Philippines
We review four casinos for Pinoy players. For players who check the numbers, start with these two:
- BC.Game: the biggest lobby, with 7,600+ slots from 61 providers, including JILI (Super Ace, Fortune Gems 3), PG Soft, Fa Chai and Pragmatic Play Philippine (Gates of Olympus 1000, Sugar Rush 1000). Its BC Originals (Crash, Limbo, Plinko, Mines and more) are provably fair, and it runs a peso wallet.
- BK8: JILI, PG Soft, Fa Chai and Pragmatic Play across 23 slot studios, and every game tile shows its RTP, so you can compare before you spin. Its instant rebate (0.5% on slots for regular members, no turnover) effectively lifts the RTP you get.
Megapari adds 172 studios with a free demo on most slots, handy for reading the info screen before you play for real. Winna is the pick for provably fair play: 16 Originals you can verify yourself, 4,490+ slots and instant rakeback from your first bet (no JILI or Fa Chai, though). All four run live baccarat from Evolution for the high-RTP Banker bet.
To fund: BK8’s payment guide and BC.Game’s homepage list GCash, Maya and QR Ph. Since the BSP’s August 2025 delink, wallet money goes in via QR Ph or bank transfer; our Maya casino page explains why. Or buy USDT in GCrypto and send it to any of the four. If speed matters, BK8 and Winna are on our fast payout list.
21+ only. RTP tells you the price of the fun, so set a budget you’re happy to spend, treat it as entertainment, and stop when it’s gone. More on staying in control on our responsible gambling page.
